LANSING, Mich. - Michigan's insurance advocate wants auto insurers to get state approval for rate increases and says they no longer should consider where a driver lives when setting rates.
Melvin "Butch" Hollowell unveiled 10 recommendations Wednesday he says would better protect consumers. Insurance groups quickly lined up against the changes.
"People are tired of paying these highest-in-the-nation rates, and they want something done about it," Hollowell told reporters. "We think it's important for the insurance commissioner to weigh in before rates take effect."
